Valentine's Masterclass!

What?  Valentine's Masterclass!
When?  Saturday, February 4th
For Who?  ALL of my students (including you older students)
Where?  Bodtcher House (1264 E. 700 N. - see below for directions)
Time? 2:00pm for the older students (14 and up)
2:15/2:20pm for the younger students (13 and younger)
What to bring?  A song that you can practice performing.
(If you would like to bring a treat to share then that is more than welcome!)

After seeing that some of my students were nervous at their first recital I decided that doing a "mock recital" with only my students there would be very beneficial.  Each student will bring a song that they can perform in front of the other students.  We will practice announcing the piece and performing it in front of others.  I really think this will help build some confidence in a safe environment.  The older students (14 and up) will start right at 2:00pm and the younger students (13 and younger) will come at 2:15/2:20pm.  After we all get a chance to perform then we will have some Valentines treats and play a couple games.  The older kids are welcome to leave after performing and treats if they don't want to play games. :)  The masterclass will be held at my mom's house in American Fork.  The address is 1264 East 700 North (on the same road as the Mount Timpanogos temple).  Call if you need directions.  This will be a fun and helpful masterclass!

* IMPORTANT NOTE: For my Saturday lesson students - there will be no lessons Saturday, February 4th because of the masterclass.

New Year, New Rewards!

Younger Students
I will have a special "Goal Chart" for my students 13 and younger that they can put a sticker on if they meet their "Weekly Goal."  This could be practicing 5 days, passing off their flashcards, etc.  Once they fill up their chart they get to pick a special treat or prize out of the special "Weekly Goal" box.  This method has been really successful in the past and really helps to motivate the kids.

Older Students
I have come to realize that stickers and practice charts don't motivate the older kids like they do the younger kids.  For my students 14 and older I am doing a new program called "Weekly Goals."  When a student comes to his/her lesson with four "Weekly Goals" accomplished then they get to enter their name into a drawing.  Also, if the student passes off a level of their technique then they get to put their name in the drawing.  Every other month I will pick one name out and that lucky student will win an iTunes gift card or ColdStone gift card.  I think that will help motivate the older students more than candy or little toys would. :)  I really think this will help the older students practice hard and really progress.

One more thing....

Missing Lessons:
Just a quick reminder about missing lessons: if you have to miss a lesson then please let me know at least 24 hours in advance or else I will have to charge you the lesson.  I hate to do this but now that I am in Salt Lake for school and have a fully booked schedule, I have to make this policy.  Thank you for your understanding.
